Parents Must Be Informed. Schools Should Never Keep Secrets from Families.
A new national poll from Parents Defending Education confirms what Missouri families already believe. Schools should not withhold information from parents about their own children. Across the country, policies have emerged that allow school staff to hide information when a child expresses gender confusion or requests a different name or identity at school. These policies are wrong, and parents are rejecting them.
Parents Have the Right to Know
Parents are responsible for raising their children. That responsibility requires full and honest communication. Schools do not have the authority to keep secrets about a child’s identity, emotional state, or well-being. Withholding information from parents is a direct violation of trust. Families cannot guide, protect, or support their children if they are intentionally kept in the dark.
Children Need Their Parents Involved
Children depend on their parents during confusing or difficult seasons. Serious matters involving identity and development should always involve parents. These are not small issues, and they should never be handled behind closed doors without a family’s knowledge. Strong families require open communication.
Parents Are Drawing a Clear Line
The poll shows that parents overwhelmingly oppose policies that exclude them. This is not a divided issue. Families across the country agree that parents must be informed and involved. Schools exist to support families, not replace them.
Missouri Must Protect Parents and Children
Missouri families expect transparency and accountability.Policies that allow schools to hide information undermine families and place children in a position they should never be in. Amendment 3 reinforces the role of parents by protecting children from irreversible medical interventions and ensuring families remain central in these decisions.
Standing Firm for Families
Parents are not asking for a voice. They already have one. They are demanding that their role be respected. Her Health Her Future stands with Missouri families who believe parents must be informed, children must be protected, and schools must be honest. Now is the time to stand firm and ensure that no parent is ever kept in the dark about their own child.
